Plantskydd deer repellent on Hardwood — Oak and Green Ash

Dear Richard:

Please note the results of the follow-up study with Plantskydd® repellent, conducted on timberlands owned by A. Wilbert Sons LLC from Plaquemine, La. This phase of the study involved flagging selected browse species followed by the application of Plantskydd® repellent to each plant. The effectiveness of Plantskydd® for preventing browsing by white-tailed deer was then assessed. The original two treatment plots from our first study were selected for use once again. Plots were treated on May 14, 2001 and browse determinations were made on September 17, 2001. The following results were obtained.

Plot #1: Ten green ash (Fraxinus pennsylanica) and two Nuttall oaks (Quercus nuttallii) were sprayed with the product. Light browse was detected on one green ash and one nuttall oak.

Plot #2: Ten green ash and ten nuttall oaks were sprayed with the product. Light browse was detected on one green ash and one nuttall oak seeding.

The results of this test indicated that Plantskydd® protected up to 90% of the seedlings sprayed in each plot. I appreciated your willingness to allow our use of your product for this study. I believe that in certain situations the results of these tests indicate that Plantskydd® can be very effective in preventing browse damage from white-tailed deer in our area. I greatly appreciate the help and cooperation of Mr. Vic Blanchard with A. Wilbert Sons LLC. for allowing the use of their company lands for these tests.
